Introduction to the Characters of Commedia Dell'arte:
The scenario-based and improvised drama of Commedia Dell'arte includes characters who are a representation of fixed social types such as foolish masters, stray servants, and outsiders who are driven by money, food, and sexual desires. Pantalone

Status: Top of the social bureaucracy and controls financial conditions in the "character world of Commedia" (shane-arts).
Physical Characteristics:
Costume: Usually wears dark colors such as greyness, blackness, and green; red tights, tight-fitting vest; a woolen bonnet; a long, draping cloak; yellow Turkish slippers, highlighting his wealth and connection to the exterior world (shane-arts).
Mask: Includes a long, hooked nose with pronounced eyebrows; a mustache is also common.
Stance: A slight hunch, highlighting his age; his rear-end is pointed outwards in an exaggerated fashion; his knees are ever well bent, constantly protecting his purse, which exemplifies his paranoia of others stealing his possessions (shane-arts).
Walk: Aggressively walks with long strides and elongated legs, similar to that of a turkey; when he talks to someone, he is ever leaning forward.
Poses: A few of his near common poses include: leaning over with his olfactory organ in the air, one leg bent with the other resting his heel; leaning astern with this pelvis leaning forward.
Props: A aureate chain hanging around the neck, a pouch slung beyond his body, and a dagger.
Il Dottore
Groundwork and Plot Role: Il Dottore is ane of the iii characters associated with being 'masters' in Commedia (the other ii being Pantalone and Il Capitano). He is a 'know it all' who in reality doesn't actually know much and most always adopts gibberish or 'motor-mouth' into his dialogue every bit compensation for this fact (Clown link). Mask: Minimal in terms of its coverage. The nose and forehead are the only facial features that are covered, leaving the cheeks and everything below them completely exposed.
Stance/Pose: Pig-like with stomach pushed out, giving the impression of a lot of weight being put on feet. Sometimes leaning forward in order to emphasize this idea.
Walk: Traditionally influenced by his weight, significant slow and mini steps, however, in some scenarios his steps are quick and cockroach-like. Stress vs. Resolution is primal, with the former causing him to lean forrard in tension and the latter upright in relaxation (Shane-Arts).
Props: A book or other academic paraphernalia besides as a white handkerchief (Shane-Arts).
